Austin Mayor Steve Adler says he’s suing for fair property appraisals. A tea party skeptic calls the legal gambit an “ill-conceived publicity stunt.” “The mayor’s plan won’t save people money — they’re being played as saps. It’s a total gimmick,” says Mark Pulliam, a retired attorney and local political activist. Read more here... Thanks to Mark Pullium for speaking on behalf of The Austin Tea Party.
![]() Apply Free Market Principles Whereas the City of Austin has a history of making policy decisions that are political in nature and not grounded in real economics or take into account the impact on individual freedoms; and Whereas the City Council’s energy would be more effectively spent in allowing businesses to compete without burdensome regulations that meet political whims but are costly to implement and enforce; and Whereas individuals as a whole prosper in communities where free market principles are allowed to run their course; Therefore, we resolve that the City of Austin should govern according the principles of the Free Market, which are: 1) Individual Rights: "We are each created with equal individual rights to control and to defend our life, liberty and property and to voluntary contractual exchange." 2) Limited Government: "Governments are instituted only to secure individual rights, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." 3) Equal Justice Under Law: "Government must treat everyone equally; neither rewarding failure nor punishing success." 4) Subsidiarity: "Government authority must reside at the lowest feasible level." 5) Spontaneous Order: "When individual rights are respected, unregulated competition will maximize economic benefit for society by providing the most goods and services possible at the lowest cost." 6) Property Rights: "Private ownership is the most efficient way to sustainably utilize resources." 7) The Golden Rule: "Deal with others honestly and require honesty in return." Signed: The Austin Tea Party C0-Signed: sign below in comments ![]() Budget at the Effective Tax Rate Whereas the City of Austin is experiencing strong growth in new properties being added to the tax rolls every year; and Whereas new properties mean new sources of revenue each year totaling in the millions of dollars; and Whereas, in spite of the growing tax base and rising property values, the City repeatedly raises the tax rate and takes in a higher percentage of dollars year after year, Therefore, we resolve that the City should henceforth set budgets according to the Effective Tax Rate, which would allow the city to collect the same amount of revenue as it did the previous year, with additional revenue coming in only from new properties on the tax roll, thereby providing immediate tax relief to property owners and hedging them from future bloated tax rate increases. Signed: The Austin Tea Party Co-Sign: sign in comments below ![]() Implement the Maximum Allowable Homestead Exemption Whereas assessed property values on Austin homes are skyrocketing; and Whereas Austin is the only major city in Texas that does not make a homestead exemption available to its residents; and Whereas cost of implementing the full homestead exemption can reasonably be absorbed by making strategic cuts within the city’s budget, Therefore, we resolve that the City of Austin should act quickly to bring tax relief to Austin homeowners by implementing the maximum allowable homestead exemption. Let’s Go Austin has run expensive newspaper ads, distributed massive amounts of mailers and even circulated a high dollar video telling Austinites, the Austin Tea Party is 1.) misleading them and 2.) is behind the campaign against Prop. 1. They even hired U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett to smear the Austin Tea Party, telling Austinites we were misleading them on the issue of light rail. This multithousand dollar PAC is spreading lies and deception, using the Austin Tea Party as their fall guy. They claim we are misleading the public on the light rail issue. Not true. But we have referred Austinites to http://norailtax.com/ to get the facts. By the way, Citizens Against Rail Taxes uses the same numbers as Let’s Go Austin, just without the deception. Secondly, they claim that we are “behind” the campaign against Prop. 1. Not true. The Austin Tea Party is not involved with the planning and financing of the campaign against Prop. 1. We have spent ZERO dollars supporting the campaign and we have in no way been involved in planning or strategizing for the campaign. So why is this almost half a million dollar PAC taking aim at the Austin Tea Party? Pure and simple, it’s an act of desperation. They can’t even justify their own facts so they have to deceive the public and demonize anyone who seeks the truth. Just think, with the half a million dollars Let’s Go Austin is spending on deception (SEE VIDEO), we could have started to implemented “smart signal lights”. Now there’s a smart investment and common sense solution to traffic congestion. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tens of thousands of Central American children have left their homes and families to illegally enter America. The majority of these children have been subjected to harsh and inhumane treatment while traveling to the border. Many have died trying to cross the border. There is great public concern not only for the illegal alien children but for our own children and the communities we live in. “People are quite concerned about how this is going to impact our nation’s sovereignty, and how it is going to impact communities,” Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said. “The public health security of our nation, issues with smallpox and scabies and TB—those are true concerns for Americans and for the Border Patrol working to end this, and the National Guard who are on the border, and for the direct-care providers in these facilities trying to care for these children.” Do we, the citizens of Travis County, really want to house and support these illegal alien children or should they be immediately sent back to their homes and families? In response to Austin Interfaith’s urging of our county and city officials to aid these illegal aliens, we would like to ask our county and city officials the following questions: 1) Does this Council/Commission have any advance information concerning any illegal immigrants coming to our city/County? Are there any coming here and, if so, how many? 2) Where are these illegal aliens to be housed or detained? Will there be any public debate offered regarding the locations chosen for housing illegal aliens? 3) Has the city/county enough financial resources to manage an influx of hundreds or thousands of non-English speaking, indigent people? Are the enough law enforcement resources, hospital and medical services, and other civic resources funded and available to manage illegal aliens re-located to our communities? 4) Does the city/county have a contingency/emergency plan developed to cover this specific scenario? 5) Will the care and services available to citizens in this city/county be affected by the sudden and large influx of illegal aliens? We encourage our county and city official to be forthright with answers to these questions and more. We encourage our county and city officials to hold public hearings and debates before acting on this important issue. We encourage all candidates running for city council and mayor to take a public stand. We urge our local, state and federal official to take immediate steps to resend/defund DACA, to secure our border with Mexico and to send the illegal alien children back to their homes and families. ### FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

When the President of the United States prevents the Border Patrol from following the law, and enforcing our immigration laws, when the President of the United States announces to the world amnesty for those who have broken the law, the consequence is people respond to that, and the way they respond to that is handing over their children to drug dealers and vicious cartels.” With that said, we make the following points: 1. Our hearts go out to all the children involved in the massive flow of illegal aliens to the United States but we refuse to be a party to the enabling of policies and behavior that contributes to the mutilation, rape, brutalization and even death of children attempting to reach the US border in their belief of amnesty. 2. We cannot bear the thought of human trafficking for the purpose of prostitution, child pornography, and indentured servitude. 3. We are not prepared to spend our limited budgets and resources to fight an unrestricted drug trade and multi-national crime as the result of US border and immigration policies. 4. We do not want to see the health and safety of our own children, seniors, and communities suffer at the expense of pro-amnesty, open borders ideology promoted by the Left. 5. Our issue isn’t with illegal minors, but with a federal government whose policies promote horrors upon the “trail of tears” for which these people are lured from their own countries. Our issue is with a U.S. federal government that entices illegal immigration with a veiled promise of amnesty. Our issue is with a federal government that packs kids into detention centers in conditions worse than prison. Our issue is with a federal government that bypasses State and local governments, who fires agents, medical personnel and care givers who speak out about detainee conditions, and censors media in the name of “protecting” the children above the right of the people to know the truth. We call on the Austin City Council to answer the following questions: 1. Does the city council have any advance information concerning any illegal immigrants coming to our city? Are there any coming here and, if so, how many? 2. Where are these illegal aliens to be housed or detained? Will there be any public debate offered regarding the locations chosen for housing illegal aliens? 3. Has the city enough financial resources to manage an influx of hundreds or thousands of non-English speaking, indigent people? Are there enough law enforcement resources, hospital and medical services, and other civic resources funded and available to manage illegal aliens re-located to our communities? 4. Does the city have a contingency/emergency plan developed to cover this specific scenario? 5. Will the care and services available to citizens in this city be affected by the sudden and large influx of illegal aliens? ### |
